"The design is unique and hasn't been done before in other skate parks," said designer Brian Moore Brian Moore may be:
The design was revealed at a Saturday community workshop meeting and was well-received by the extreme-sports crowd. "This design is dope," said 9-year-old Tyler Schumann. Tyler was most excited by the 360-degree tunnel included in the design, even though the beginning skater doesn't yet have the skill to ride it. But Tyler's mom, Denise Schumann, said she is sure he'll get more experience before the park's expected opening next summer. "This design is great and long overdue," she said. Replacing the current 12,000-square-foot skate park, the new and improved 25,000-square-foot skate park promises to attract "shredders" from all over. Its amenities were compiled from ideas at a community workshop in December that allowed local skaters and bikers to design six different "dream parks." The most-requested attractions for the new park included lighting for night skating, elaborate concrete hills and valleys, hips, ditches, half pipes and full pipes, ledges of various sizes and a stage and stairs. "We are really trying to hear the community to meet the needs of every skater and biker bik·er n. 1. One who rides a bicycle or a motorbike. 2. "This (current) park is really small and more of a beginner park," Martin said. "There's a youth session on weekend mornings, which I think is great, but maybe we should have an evening adult session, too," Martin said. Still, most skaters and bikers at Saturday's meeting were just excited and eager to see their dream park become a reality. The final design plan will be reviewed by the city Parks and Recreation Committee on March 1, with the goal of breaking ground by January.
