 with 11 people on board crashed Friday night in waters off Northern California Northern California, sometimes referred to as NorCal, is the northern portion of the U.S. state of California. The region contains the San Francisco Bay Area, the state capital, Sacramento; as well as the substantial natural beauty of the redwood forests, the northern , officials said.

There was one confirmed survivor, who was taken to Mad River Community Hospital in Arcata, Coast Guard Petty Officer Kevin Kelly Kevin Kelly may refer to:

Hospital spokeswoman Sue Barnes said the man is in serious condition in the emergency room. She would not give further details about the man's injuries or identity.

A statement released by the U.S. Air Force in Portland, Ore., said radio contact with the plane was lost about 7:30 p.m.

The plane was en route from the Portland Air Base to San Diego on a mission involving navigation, the Air Force said.

The Coast Guard had four aircraft searching the site of the crash, about 40 miles off Cape Mendocino. The rescue effort was hampered by darkness, the Coast Guard said.

The aircraft was assigned to the 939th Rescue Wing's 304th Rescue Squadron.
