PITCHESS ESCAPEE SIRENS TO BE TESTED TODAY'S DRILL TO MEASURE RESPONSE TIMES FOR CREWS.

CASTAIC - Sirens intended to alert the community in the event of an inmate's escape from the Pitchess Detention Center A detention center or a detention centre is any location used for detention. Specifically, it can mean:
  • A prison
  • A structure for immigration detention
  • An internment camp or concentration camp
 in Castaic will be sounded today for 15 minutes while the jail conducts an escape response training drill, authorities said.

The six sirens - three are stationed on the grounds of the facility, three more in nearby neighborhoods - will sound simultaneously at approximately 9:30 a.m. for about 15 minutes. The former air-raid sirens will be heard across the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672. , authorities said.

If the sirens were sounded after a real escape, local schools would go into lockdown Lockdown

The drill will include a ``role playing'' exercise in which a deputy will dress as an inmate and escape from one of the facility's jails. The deputy will hide somewhere on the grounds as Pitchess deputies and emergency response crews try to locate him, Waldman said.
