PIT BULL ATTACKS 3-YEAR-OLD BOY.

PALMDALE - A pit bull mauled a 3-year-old boy, biting the toddler on his head and face, and was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy, officials said Wednesday.

 about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, outside his home in the 1100 block of East Avenue R-3, officials said. He was airlifted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , where he was listed in good condition.

Authorities said the dog was running loose in the neighborhood at the time of the attack.

``There may be criminal liability for the animal getting out and causing injury,'' said Lt. Terry Eversol of the Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control Department.

Eversol said his department was investigating whether they had ever received previous complaints about the dog running loose.

After the dog attacked the child, neighbors managed to corral corral
