 PILLAR INTRODUCES FYPLAN FOR WINDOWS:
PRODUCT EMPLOYS PILLAR'S UNIQUE NEW OPEN FRAMEWORK TECHNOLOGY
FOSTER CITY, Calif., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Pillar Corporation today introduced FYPlan(tm) for Windows, making its enterprise-wide budgeting system available for the first time on IBM-compatible PCs. FYPlan for Windows incorporates all the facilities needed for developing annual budgets and rolling forecasts, including revenues, expenses and capital expenditures; sophisticated business modeling; automatic consolidations; and integrated P&L, balance sheets and cash flow statements.
FYPlan employs a distributed architecture which allows all those involved in the budgeting process to work together seamlessly in a networked environment. The product is based on Pillar's unique new Open Framework technology, which enables the company to extend FYPlan to additional platforms in the future while maintaining common code and to develop other platform-independent applications.
"The value of FYPlan has already been proven in the Apple(R) Macintosh(R) market," said Ken Ross, president and CEO of Pillar. "Now the wide acceptance of Windows 3.1 and the availability of object- oriented development tools on Windows allows us to offer truly comprehensive budgeting to the large PC market as well." Comprehensive Enterprise-Wide Budgeting
With its integrated database and multiple user capabilities, FYPlan for Windows is a comprehensive corporate budgeting product that provides a much more powerful, flexible and easy-to-use alternative to spreadsheets.
Users can manipulate plan details any way they want and quickly see the results in integrated P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements. Line managers can easily develop "bottoms up" budgets and rolling forecasts. FYPlan automates the consolidation process and provides audit trails that document what information has been changed as well as who changed it. Planning managers can analyze the detail by "drilling down" from the P&L or balance sheet to see the underlying assumptions -- even notes about specific line items. New enhancements on the Windows platform include support for color as well as features that make it easier to administer and set up.
Because FYPlan employs an integrated database, users can easily develop customized reports and graphs by searching and sorting their planning data using FYPlan's unique reporting tools. For example, sales forecasts can be sorted and subtotaled by sales rep, distribution channel, or product.
Corporations that employ both Apple Macintosh and Windows platforms for budgeting and forecasting can use FYPlan to integrate the process, as users can exchange information between FYPlan for Macintosh and FYPlan for Windows.
Data from existing systems, including corporate general ledgers, accounting systems, marketing databases, personnel files, and spreadsheets, can easily be integrated into the planning process with FYPlan's powerful import/export features. FYPlan can exchange data with a variety of hardware platforms including Digital's VAX(R), the HP(R) 3000, the IBM As/400(R), various UNIX(R) platforms, IBM mainframes, and other platforms. Open Framework Technology
FYPlan for Windows is the first product to be based on Pillar's new Open Framework technology. "Open Framework is a breakthrough of great strategic value to Pillar," said Ross. "It allows us to quickly and easily adapt FYPlan to any existing or future platform. Plus, Open Framework gives us a foundation on which to develop other platform- independent applications."
Open Framework handles the interface of FYPlan to multiple platforms and adapts the user interface to supported platforms. Extensions to support new platforms can be added without rewriting the entire application. With Open Framework, an application such as FYPlan has common code across platforms, thus allowing new functionality to be offered on all platforms. Today Open Framework supports Macintosh and Windows; in the future it is capable of supporting Windows NT, UNIX, OS/2, and more. Both Open Framework and FYPlan are fully object- oriented and are written in C++, enabling applications to be created, enhanced, and modified efficiently. Distributed Architecture
FYPlan employs a hierarchical, distributed architecture that allows data to be distributed and consolidated across the enterprise as needed. This architecture allows multiple users at all levels to access data for financial planning, budgeting, analyses, and forecasting. Planning managers, using FYPlan's security system, can control who participates in the planning process and how they participate. FYPlan's architecture allows corporate-wide data to be shared by everyone.
FYPlan for Windows works with virtually any LAN topology (Ethernet, Token Ring), all major network operating systems and protocols (DECnet/Pathworks, Novell, Token Ring, OS/2 LAN Manager, TCP/IP), and over wide area networks. The application can also share information via modems over standard phone lines or via manual transfer of information floppy disks.
Recommended configuration for FYPlan for Windows is a 386- or 486- based systems and Windows 3.1. Price/Availability
Prices for FYPlan for Windows start at $19,500 for a five-user system. Additional users start at $500 depending on the configuration. FYPlan for Windows will be available in December 1992. About Pillar Corporation
