PILGRIM STATION WILL BE TAKEN OFF LINE FOR TWO MONTHS

PLYMOUTH, Mass., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Pilgrim Station will be taken off line Saturday, April 3, for the ninth refueling outage in the plant's history. The plant will be off line for approximately two months.
A refueling outage is a planned event in the life of a nuclear facility, and takes place approximately every 24 months at Pilgrim. Approximately one-third of 580 fuel assemblies will be replaced during the outage.
Also scheduled during the outage are preventive-maintenance projects as well as inspections mandated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Pilgrim's last refueling outage was two years ago.
The outage was scheduled so the plant would be on line during the region's peak-demand periods in summer and winter. Boston Edison's (NYSE: BSE) Nuclear Organization will be supplemented by approximately 1,000 contractors during the outage.
/NOTE TO EDITORS: We will issue progress reports on the outage at regular intervals./
