PIERCE COLLEGE LETS VISITORS WALK WITH THE FARM ANIMALS.

Pierce College offers associate's degrees, mainly in the arts and sciences. There are also certificate programs in early childhood education, social services, dental hygienist, and others.
 will hold its 14th annual Farm Walk on Sunday, offering thousands of youngsters the opportunity to explore one of the last rural oases in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. .

Visitors will be able to watch sheep-shearing, wool-spinning and cow- milking while enjoying music, a petting zoo, hayrides and exotic animal and horse shows on the 240-acre farm, an integral part of the suburban campus.

"We're going to provide a nice day for parents to bring their kids out to see the farm, and see what Pierce College has to offer," said Richard South, chairman of the agriculture science department.

For many children, the event will allow them to see livestock, including cows, goats and pigs.

"I'm hoping a lot of people will figure out where their food and fiber comes from - some people think it comes from Vons," joked Leland Shapiro, director of Pierce's pre-vet program.

The department will have displays to inform prospective students about the agriculture, horticulture horticulture [Lat. hortus=garden], science and art of gardening and of cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, and ornamental plants. Last year's event drew nearly 7,000. This year, the department is predicting at least 10,000 will attend, thanks to enhanced offerings and the convenience of the Orange Line busway, which stops just north of the campus, said Vicki Michaelson, event coordinator.
