PIECE OF CAKE? THE NUPTIALS NEVER GO OFF WITHOUT A HITCH -- OR THREE -- IN THE WORLD OF 'WEDDING BELLS'.

Byline: David Kronke

Television Critic

There's no better way to celebrate the miracle of enduring love than to have five prospective brides run a wedding-themed obstacle course obstacle course

Or at least that seems to be the consensus on this day at the Grove, where participants await the chance to hop into an oversize o·ver·size

That's also quite likely a philosophy that the new Fox romantic comedy "The Wedding Bells Wedding Bells can refer to:

"We call (Kelley) 'The Wiz,' because he knows all, he sees all, but we rarely see him," Jones reveals. "It's really crazy. The first time I heard anything about what he felt about me was at (a January press conference)."

The actresses are on hand at the Grove to assist the contestants in the giveaway promotional contest for the show.

Taking the plunge

"I had pictured much larger cakes that people would literally dive into, and I thought, 'I want to do that,' " says Polo with a laugh. "I think it's hilarious. I think I'll put on a disguise and sign up."

For her part, Jones is all for the contest because, "It's nice not to have to get up at 4 o'clock and be (on the set) by 5:30."

Given the sort of heightened emotions and potential for high comedy that comes with every wedding, "The Wedding Bells" seems an ingenious concept for a TV series.

"I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

"Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party.
anyone who hasn't had the greatest day and some of the worst experiences in their life on their wedding day," agrees Strickland, who fell victim to an inadvertent comic moment herself at her wedding last November.

"One of the things that doesn't occur to you when you're having an outdoor wedding is that if you don't put something down on the ground, your shoes will get stuck. After being walked down the aisle by both her parents, she recalls, "When they let go, I kind of went back." Strickland tilts backward as far as she can. "My heels got completely buried in the ground at the altar.

"That's a moment that I never anticipated.

"I went in to meet Mr. Kelley and the crew two weeks after I got married, so I had a lot to talk about," she continues. "There are things coming out of the characters' mouths that I remember having conversations about."

No time to breathe

Polo recalls her own moment of humiliation. "When my brother got married, I was one of the bridesmaids and right during the vows, I got a frog in my throat," she says. "They say, don't hold it, cough.

"But it's right during the vows, and I'm trying to hold it and I'm turning red and I'm sweating and I'm ready I'm Ready is the double platinum second release from R&B singer Tevin Campbell. I'm Ready yielded the biggest R&B hit of his career the #1 R&B smash "Can We Talk", and produce 3 more successful hits in "I'm Ready", "Always In My Heart" and "Don't Say Goodbye Girl".  to drop dead, and my brother turns around and looks at me. So they finish the vows and I let it out and everyone's looking at me, and I'm like, 'Sorry, but I didn't want to die.' "

Of her series, Polo notes, "The wedding planner aspect is kind of a backdrop, and the show itself is more about the emotions and the relationships and the personalities of our characters. The weddings lend themselves to the subject matter that we're talking about that week, like infidelity or fantasy or gay marriage."

Therefore, she didn't do much research into the business. "My emotional life is fairly rich, considering I'm 38 and old and have been through a heck of a lot," she says, laughing.

Polo admits that initially she didn't like her character too much because of her sensible nature but has since completely changed her mind.

"In my opinion -- and don't tell the other cast members this, although they'll read this later -- I really feel unbelievably fortunate in that I believe my character is the most fleshed out and the fullest and the richest," Polo enthuses. "She goes anywhere from being the uptight older sister to the caring, sweet, slightly patronizing wife to the girl who is mad because her younger sister read her diary and is being sexually come-on-to by the chef. It's so lovely and there are so many emotional areas that she runs the gamut."

That said, it's time It's Time was a successful political campaign run by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) under Gough Whitlam at the 1972 election in Australia. Campaigning on the perceived need for change after 23 years of conservative (Liberal Party of Australia) government, Labor put forward a  for the contestants to run the gamut of the obstacle course. After pulling garters over their thighs, they toss a bouquet and then lunge, bare-handed and with a ruthless zeal, into the 2-foot-tall cakes.

Except contestant Catherine Eden Taylor of Torrance, who struggles to get her garter over her track suit sweats. Finally, she succeeds, then flings her bouquet over her shoulder with such violence that it almost smacks Strickland square in the face.

Despite falling behind, Taylor locates the ring in her cake first and wins. Polo and Jones then gleefully glee·ful

Polo, quite likely, would have been more adept at avoiding Taylor's errantly tossed bouquet. Before the race, the divorced actress declares, "I don't want to get married."
