PICKUP DRIVER KILLED ON 138.Byline: Daily News LLANO - Highway 138 claimed another life over the weekend with the death of a 40-year-old Moreno Valley man killed in a head-on crash with a big rig, officials said. Mark Davis' Toyota pickup crossed over the center line of the two-lane highway where it makes a double curve east of 175th Street East, a California Highway Patrol report said. Traveling about 50 mph, Davis' pickup slammed head-on into a two-axle Volvo tractor trailer driven by Robert Macias, 46, of Hesperia, who was not injured. The crash happened about 1:50 p.m. Sunday. Also killed Sunday was a Santa Monica motorcyclist who authorities said crashed after passing another motorcycle at an estimated 80 mph on Elizabeth Lake Road. Brian Porter, 30, was riding a 1999 Suzuki GSXR-750 approaching Munz Rancho Road just before 6 p.m. Sunday when he crossed over the double line in a curve to pass a motorcycle traveling about 60 mph, a CHP report said. Porter's motorcycle ran off the curve and into a dirt berm berm: see beach., the report said. The other motorcyclist estimated Porter was traveling 80 mph, the CHP said. Davis was at least the fifth person killed this year on Highway 138 between Littlerock and the San Bernardino County line. Last month, nine people were injured in a collision just outside Littlerock. |
