The Craft Yarn Council of America The Craft Yarn Council of America (CYCA) is an industry association representing organizations that retail 85% of the crochet and knitting supplies in the USA.

CYCA conducts bi-annual consumer surveys of American women, providing one of the only sources of statistical
 reports the number of knitters under age 35 rose more than 400 percent between 1998 and 2000, and one out of three American women are now knitting.

 has been resurrected across the nation and one of the first to offer laughter and lessons is Edith Eig at her La Knitterie Parisienne in Studio City.

Beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, and continuing through Friday, Eig will be dispensing knitting advice in front of the camera as the host of a five- part miniseries called ``Knit One, Purl Two'' on the Do-It-Yourself Network (with repeats on its sister network, Home & Garden Television).

To make viewers feel like they're part of a sewing circle, she's invited celebrity knitters to help tackle different projects with step-by-step instructions. Knitting designer Judith Swartz shares tips on how to make some of those edgy new knits found in the fashion mags, including long, fluffy striped mufflers and those amusing tasseled ``fat hats,'' in her new book ``Hip to Knit: 18 Projects for Today's Knitter'' (Interweave Press; $18.95). She not only gives you a shopping list and explicit details, but also focuses on how to make your knit garments fit so they don't look like ``you made it yourself.''
