WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA? A friend became a portrait photographer specializing in toddlers. I adapted her successful business model to my love of pets. My goal is to be able to manufacture moments a la department store portraits, but to capture genuine, emotional moments that reveal the personalities of pets and their owners.

HOW LONG WAS IT FROM CONCEPT TO OPENING? About a year.

WHAT DID YOU DO DURING THAT TIME? I enrolled in digital photography classes, learned basic Photoshop and created a Web site with colorful galleries. I experimented by shooting people with adorable a·dor·a·ble

WHOM DID YOU RELY ON FOR ADVICE? Close friends who are portrait photographers and wedding photographers, a photography instructor and a Photoshop instructor.

WHAT HADN'T YOU CONSIDERED BEFORE OPENING? I underestimated the amount of turnaround time (1) In batch processing, the time it takes to receive finished reports after submission of documents or files for processing. In an online environment, turnaround time is the same as response time.  required in prepping a full set of 20 to 30 great portraits in the editing phase on the computer.

WHAT IS YOUR EXPECTED REVENUE THIS YEAR? $60,000 to $70,000
