PHOENIX LASER SYSTEMS, INC ANNOUNCES TRACKING SYSTEM PATENT FILING

FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Phoenix Laser Systems, Inc., (AMEX: PXS) today announced the filing of a new patent application covering a proprietary new tracking system for specific use in the Phoenix Ophthalmic Laser Workstation and for general use in medical and industrial applications. The patent application describes a method and apparatus for a tranverse tracking system that can greatly improve the accuracy, speed, range, reliability, versatility and safety of interventions such as laser microsurgery, medical diagnostics, such as in topographic measurements of the cornea and industrial micromachining, especially in semiconductor processing. The instrument and system described in the patent are used in situations where precise operations on a target subject to random movement are to be affected. By stabilizing the motion of targets in real time, other assemblies such as laser guidance, diagnostic illumination, depth rangers and/or target viewing systems can maintain lock on the target area regardless of its movement.
Phoenix Laser Systems, Inc. is a developer of integrated laser workstations primarily for use by the medical community. The company's initial efforts have been focused on the design, development and testing of its first product, the Phoenix Ophthalmic laser workstation. The company's technology permits surgery designed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, as well as a large number of eye disorders which are untreatable or only partially treatable with current technology.
