PHILADELPHIA TRIBUNE EXPANDS CHESTER DISTRIBUTION

 PHILADELPHIA TRIBUNE EXPANDS CHESTER DISTRIBUTION
PHILADELPHIA, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Philadelphia Tribune

recently made another strategic move by expanding circulation in the Chester, Pa., area, thereby increasing its Delaware County distribution.
Prior to the expansion, the Tribune's Delaware County readership totaled 25,000 with distribution points in Yeadon, Upper Darby, Darby and Sharon Hill. With the expanded distribution in Chester, which began the week of May 4, the paper's total anticipated Delaware County readership will be 30,000, according to Tribune officials.
The Tribune's new distribution sites include 40 supermarkets, variety stores and newsstands, and 11 Chester public schools. The Tribune's news pages will also include coverage of events of interest to and about the Chester community.
According to Ronald Jackson, the Tribune's circulation director, the idea to expand the paper's distribution into Chester stemmed from a March meeting with community activists A-H Muhammed, during which Muhammed explained that the Chester community had a strong interest in receiving the Tribune's news coverage of the African-American community.
In April, the Tribune introduced a new four-color front page format, featuring a new masthead and new section titles. The paper also debuted a new, four-color monthly magazine distributed as a free insertion in The Philadelphia Tribune and in the paper's Metro edition, which is circulated in West and Northwest Philadelphia and in Delaware County. The paper's management, in conjunction with KYW-TV (Channel 3), also launched a weekly television program, "The Philadelphia Saturday Tribune," aired on KYW at 11:30 a.m. The paper also hired three new senior-level staff members.
Founded in 1884 as a forum for African-American progress and justice, The Philadelphia Tribune is located at 520 S. 16th St., in Center City Philadelphia. The broadsheet-sized paper is published twice weekly -- on Tuesdays and Fridays -- and its tabloid Metro edition is published each Thursday. The combined readership of Tribune publications is 250,000 persons. The Philadelphia Tribune is audited by Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) and Certified Audit of Circulation (CAC), and is a member of the National Newspaper Publisher's Association (NNPA). Formed in 1940, the NNPA is the oldest trade association for African-American print organizations. In 1991, Robert W. Bogle began a two-year term as NNPA's national president.
