In a special ceremony, Philadelphia Electric Company (NYSE: PE) will officially dedicate its new Emergency Operations Facility/Emergency News Center (EOF/ENC) in Coatesville on Thursday, April 30.
The new 22,000-square-foot facility, sitting directly behind PE's Coatesville Service Building, centralizes the company's nuclear Emergency Response Organization at one location and coordinates PE's efforts with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, state and county agencies.
The facility would be activated in the event of an emergency at the Limerick Generating Station in Montgomery County or at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in York County. The state-of-the-art facility will also be used for emergency drills, training, and other company and community functions.
The EOF/ENC gives PE personnel direct access to information about both of its nuclear generating facilities. It provides office space for state agencies, a media work room and auditorium designed to disseminate information to the news media quickly and effectively.
At the ceremony, PE President and Chief Operating Officer Corbin A. McNeill Jr. will deliver remarks. Joseph L. LaFleur, director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency will be the keynote speaker.
After the official program at 10 a.m., a tour of the new facility will be given for the approximately 150 guests expected at the ceremony.
