PHILADELPHIA ELECTRIC SOLAR ENERGY PROJECT KICKS OFF EARTH WEEK

PHILADELPHIA ELECTRIC SOLAR ENERGY PROJECT KICKS OFF EARTH WEEK
To correspond with Earth Week, a solar energy project sponsored in part by Philadelphia Electric Company (NYSE: PE) will begin producing electricity Tuesday, April 21, 1992.
Construction at the Randolph Skills Center, a Philadelphia public school at Roberts and Henry avenues, has been underway for several months. More than 24 students at the vocational technical school have been getting "hands-on" training, installing solar panels on the roof of the school and working on the electrical wiring.
On Tuesday, starting at 10 a.m., the students will get to see the benefits of turning the sun's energy into electricity as they monitor the first electricity generated by the project. The Randolph Skills Center in Philadelphia should see direct results in the form of lower energy bills from the project.
Students will be on hand to explain to the media how the project works and their involvement in it.
The Skills Center, of the School District of Philadelphia, is part of a $172,000 solar electricity project sponsored by the Pennsylvania Energy Office, PE and the Solarex Corporation of Bucks County. Solarex and PE began their work with solar energy several years ago.
