 PHILADELPHIA ELECTRIC AMONG THE FIRST
TO OFFER NEW SERVICE FOR THE DISABLED
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Philadelphia Electric Company (NYSE: PE) announced today it is beginning a new service -- Braille and large-print bills -- for its visually impaired customers.
On March 1, The company will start enrolling customers for the service, which will begin on April 1.
The "Touch Documents" will be distributed to customers in addition to their regular monthly bills. They will be prepared and mailed for PE by Elwyn Incorporated, a local, non-profit organization in Delaware County that employs disabled people.
PE's director of Customer Billing and Central Services, George Blair, says everyone benefits from a service like this. "It will not only help the disabled, but also assist the agencies that serve them. The community also benefits because PE is using a local organization that employs local people."
Philadelphia Electric customers interested in the "Touch Documents" service can enroll by calling 800-841-4141. Each customers account will be coded appropriately and sent to Elwyn.
"Touch Documents" is one more example of PE's commitment to its customers and their needs. An AT&T Language Line has been available for six months, and offers interpreters in 140 languages.
PE also has a special Tel-A-Type telephone service for its hearing impaired customers.
PE said it expects to serve at least 500 blind and visually impaired customers a month. Anyone interested may call the toll-free line 24 hours a day.
