PHILADELPHIA BUSINESS JOURNAL AND PHILADELPHIA MAGAZINE TO PUBLISH JOINT SUPPLEMENT

PHILADELPHIA BUSINESS JOURNAL AND PHILADELPHIA MAGAZINE
 TO PUBLISH JOINT SUPPLEMENT
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Philadelphia Magazine and Philadelphia Business Journal have entered into a unique publishing arrangement today.
Philadelphia's weekly business newspaper will join with one of the nation's most successful monthly city magazines to produce and market special sections that will run in both publications.
The first special section will be a 16-page, four-color supplement on personal finance which will appear as part of the February 1993 issue of Philadelphia Magazine and the Feb. 1 issue of the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The personal finance section will appear within the editorial well of Philadelphia Magazine and will run as an insert in the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The section will consist of eight pages of stories about investments, taxes and other financial news of special interest to Philadelphia readers. Only eight full-page advertisements will be sold for this section.
Because the supplement will appear at the time when many readers will be preparing 1992 income tax forms for filing, it will include useful information about recent tax law changes and tax filing strategies. There will be articles on other personal finance topics in addition to taxes.
Combined circulation of the special section will be more than 150,000 copies. There is a special, single local advertising rate of $12,000 per four-color page for the section with a discount for a second ad to appear in a subsequent joint personal finance section scheduled for September of 1993.
Philadelphia Magazine Publisher David Lipson said, "The cooperation of the two publications that compete in the same marketplace is a phenomenon that could only happen in the '90s. The real winners in this joint venture will be the advertisers and the readers."
Neither the Business Journal nor Philadelphia Magazine regularly provides their readers with coverage of personal finance. "This combination lets us take advantage of each of our strengths in a way that will give the reader an exciting new section," said Jack Roberts, editor of the Philadelphia Business Journal.
"We're delighted to be teaming up with the Business Journal," said Philadelphia Magazine Editor Eliot Kaplan, "and hope this will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship for us and a real bonus for our readers."
Philadelphia Business Journal Publisher Lyn Kremer said, "The combined editorial strength of this region's pre-eminent local publications will result in a must-read section and offer an exclusive and effective advertising opportunity for our clients."
