PGD DCC SOFTWARE IN STORES NOV. 3; 300 STORES TARGETED FOR DCC LAUNCH
NEW YORK, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- PolyGram Group Distribution (PGD) announced today it will lead the Digital Compact Cassette (DCC) software launch with an in-store date of Nov. 3.
DCC software will initially be available in approximately 300 locations throughout the United States. The initial launch will target retail music locations in markets where DCC hardware will first be available with full distribution to music retailers in time for the Christmas selling season.
In commenting on the announcement, PGD President Jim Caparro stated, "It is full systems go for the launch of DCC. We are very excited and feel confident that DCC will become the leading new digital configuration, and a perfect companion to CD."
In conjunction with the product launch, commencing Nov. 6, a national DCC advertising campaign is planned by Philips with participating launch locations. PGD has also agreed to distribute DCC in-store merchandising/display materials at launch locations on behalf of the DCC Group of America, the trade organization formed by the industry to create consumer awareness for the DCC music system.
The DCC music system is designed for home, in-car personal and portable use and plays not only DCCs, but cassettes from listeners' existing collection. It was invented by Philips Consumer Electronics of the Netherlands, and was co-developed by Matsushita Electric Industrial Company of Japan.
