PFIZER TO BUILD FIRST SATELLITE PCC PLANT FOR EUROPE
NEW YORK, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Pfizer Specialty Minerals Group

will build its first European precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) plant at the Aussedat Rey paper mill in Saillat, France.
"This is our first satellite PCC plant to be built in Europe, so quite naturally we are very excited," said Walter Nazarewicz, president of Pfizer Minerals.
High-brightness, high-opacity PCC slurry will be piped directly to the paper mill from the adjoining on-site satellite plant assuring availability, uniform product quality and reduced costs," Nazarewicz said.
The plant will cost an estimated $10 million and initially will employ eleven people to be recruited locally. It will facilitate Aussedat Rey's conversion to the alkaline process.
Pfizer Minerals owns and operates 18 PCC satellites in the U.S. and three in Canada. Merchant PCC plants are operational in Massachusetts and Japan, and a satellite PCC unit is being completed in Mexico. The plant at Saillat, like the other satellite PCC plants, will be owned and operated by Pfizer Minerals.
Aussedat Rey is a subsidiary of International Paper Company (NYSE: IP). With 1990 sales of $13 billion, International Paper ranks as one of the world's largest and is a leader in the production of uncoated free sheet printing and writing papers.
Pfizer Minerals is a subsidiary of Pfizer Special Minerals Group, a major business group of Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE). Pfizer Inc is a diversified, research-based health care company with businesses in pharmaceuticals, hospital products, consumer products, animal health, and specialty chemicals and minerals. The company reported sales of more than $6.4 billion for 1990.
