LANCASTER -- Lancaster is gearing up for its annual Bark at the Park event, which allows dogs to strut their stuff while showing their human companions different activities they can enjoy with their pets.

The event will be held from 10a.m. to 5p.m. Oct.7 at Lancaster City Park, 43011 10th St. West.

Admission is free.

Bark at the Park will include a pet costume contest, a Frisbee competition, a human-pet look-alike contest, and even a singing contest for musically inclined pooches.

Other attractions include a live auction, hound hound, classification used by breeders and kennel clubs to designate dogs bred to hunt animals. Most of the dogs in this group hunt by scent, their quarry ranging from such large game as bear or elk to small game and vermin; ground scenters trail slowly with the head  and human interactive games, food, vendors, specialty guests and more.

``The city has hosted Bark at the Park for over 10 years and is proud to promote responsible dog ownership,'' Vice Mayor Ed Sileo said.

Polite, leashed dogs with up-to-date vaccinations are welcome, organizers said. No retractable re·tract

Last year's event raised $1,500.

Other activities include agility demonstrations, canine good-citizen tests, a CaninEnstein test to measure a dog's IQ, and a trick contest.

The event will also include a splash dog demonstration in which dogs jump into a pool. For $10, owners can let their dogs practice their diving skills too. The money will be refunded if a dog decides against taking a splash.

Also performing will be Kyra Sundance, whose Weimaraner, Chalcy, has appeared with Jay Leno Jay Leno (born April 28, 1950) is an Emmy-winning American comedian, writer who is best known as the current host of NBC television's long-running variety and talk program The Tonight Show. Biography
