 DELTA AIR LINES BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 ATLANTA, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today announced the election of Peter D. Sutherland to the company's board of directors.
 The new board member is chairman of Allied Irish Banks plc, Ireland's largest bank group. He is also chairman of the board of governors of the European Institute of Public Administration (Maastricht).
 Sutherland is a member of the boards of a number of major international companies including The British Petroleum Company and GPA. He is chairman of Shannon Aerospace Ltd. and is a member of the International Advisory Board of Volvo. He has served as Attorney General of Ireland and was a member of the Council of State of Ireland. From 1984 until 1989 he served as a commissioner of the European Communities, with responsibility for competition policy and relations with the European Parliament. When Sutherland was a European Commissioner, he launched the process of airline deregulation in the European Community.
 A native of Ireland, Sutherland was educated at Gonzaga College, University College Dublin and the Honorable Society of the King's Inns. He was graduated as a bachelor of civil law and has practiced law in Ireland and England. He has also been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.
 Sutherland is a former president of the Irish Bankers' Federation, and is a member of the Action Committee for Europe and a member of the Advisory Board of the European Community - America Trust. He is married to Maruja Sutherland and has three children.
 With Sutherland's election, the Delta board of directors numbers 15. He is the first European member of Delta's board.
