PET-ADOPTION DRIVE GETS TAILS WAGGING; PUSH RESULTS IN 30 ANIMALS OUT OF 35 FINDING HOMES; FAMILIES SOUGHT FOR REST.

Byline: Douglas Haberman Daily News Staff Writer

Responding to an adopt-a-pet drive, animal lovers took home 30 of 35 cats, dogs and rabbits from the city's West Valley Animal Shelter "Dog Pound" redirects here. For the rap group, see Tha Dogg Pound.

An animal shelter is a facility that houses homeless, lost or abandoned animals; primarily a large variety of dogs and cats.
in just 2-1/2 days, officials said Friday.

The first-time Pet Extra special section was part of Wednesday's Daily News.

``I'm really shocked that they went this fast,'' said Animal Control Officer Doreen Vail Vail (vāl), town (1990 pop. 3,569), Eagle co., W central Colo., on Gore Creek, in the Gore Range of the Rocky Mts.; founded as a ski resort 1962, inc. as a town 1966. , who was hoping the remaining five dogs would be adopted.

The Animal Services Department's public information director, Jackie David, praised the effort's success.

``We don't like putting them to sleep,'' David said.

People seeking pets actually clipped the photograph of the particular animal they wanted and came with it to the shelter, Vail said. ``It was really cute cute

Most of the pets adopted were cats, Vail said. ``A lot of the time, people live in apartments and they can only have a cat,'' she explained. ``Plus, cats don't bark bark, sailing vessel

and you don't have to walk them.''

The department did the adoptions at the West Valley shelter only. It has the capacity to hold animals for up to 10 days before euthanizing them, David said.

The East Valley shelter gets far more strays and owner turn-ins, so it cannot keep them alive for as long, David said.

The department charged nearly $74 for each adoption, which includes all shots as well as spaying spaying: see castration.  or neutering neu·ter
