PET PROJECT COUNCILWOMAN WANTS ANIMAL ZONING RELAXED.

Byline: Angie Valencia Staff Writer

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - For nearly two decades, Tina Dunn has operated the Alaskan Malamute Alaskan malamute (măl`əmyt'), breed of strong, compact working dog believed to be one of the oldest arctic sled dogs. It stands about 23 in. (58.  Rescue of Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  out of her Simi Valley home on Barnard Street.

A special-use permit granted by the City Council allows her to operate the kennel and exceed the local ordinance A local ordinance is a law usually found in a municipal code. In the United States, these laws are enforced locally in addition to state law and Federal law. See also

restricting households to no more than four dogs, cats or pot-bellied pigs The pot-bellied pig is a breed of domesticated pig originating in Vietnam with fourteen sub-species. Considerably smaller than standard American or European farm pigs, most adult pot-bellied pigs are about the size of a medium- or large-breed dog, though their bodies are denser at .

But Dunn's permit is expiring, and she is nervously awaiting word whether her application to keep up to 25 dogs on her property will be renewed.

``These are my dogs,'' she said of the long-nosed, pert-eared, furry fur·ry

dogs she raises. ``It is very crucial.''

If Councilwoman Barbra Williamson has her way, Dunn's worries would be eased.

Williamson is working to relax limits on the number of dogs and cats in neighborhoods that allow livestock - where the acreage is much larger than that of a tract home. Her proposal also would allow the breeding of animals in residential areas for commercial purposes.

``If the property is big enough, we can't just say no,''' Williamson said.

Such changes would benefit Leeds Street residents Frank and Maureen Kenton, who show Norwegian elkhound Norwegian elkhound, breed of compact hound whose origins in Norway go back more than 5,000 years. It stands about 19 in. (48.3 cm) high at the shoulder and weighs between 40 and 50 lb (18.1–22.7 kg).  dogs as a hobby. They are petitioning the city to allow them to keep more than the four-dog, four-cat maximum.

``I can have horses, mules, geese without a special-use permit,'' Frank Kenton said, ``but when it comes to dogs, there are regulations to the number of dogs I can have.''

The Kentons' application is for a maximum of 12 dogs.

The couple's home sits on more than an acre of land in a neighborhood zoned for livestock. Based on the size of their parcel, Frank Kenton said, he should be allowed to have six times the permitted number.

``This is part of our lives and part of our lifestyle. I'm hoping that the city will recognize that people in animal-overlay zones with large-size parcels should be entitled to keep more dogs.''

Williamson said she has received several calls from residents contacted by the city for not complying with zone regulations, and she said the city's guidelines should be revisited.

``I would like to see some harmony,'' she said. ``I would like to see the city work with the residents and make things happen for them rather than say it can't happen (programming) can't happen - The traditional program comment for code executed under a condition that should never be true, for example a file size computed as negative. Often, such a condition being true indicates data corruption or a faulty algorithm; it is almost always handled . It comes down to a case-by-case basis.''

A third animal special-use permit comes from Ken and Teresa Bergquist, of Adam Road, requesting permission for a hobby and rescue kennel for up to 25 Labrador retrievers This list of famous Labradors covers notable individual dogs that belong to this breed. The Labrador retriever is the most popular breed of dog (by registered ownership) in both the United States and the United Kingdom. .
