PERVERT'S SPY VIDEO ON WOMEN TENANTS; Tiny cameras in bedrooms.
A LANDLORD who secretly videoed his female tenants with hidden cameras in their bedrooms, bathroom and living room pleaded guilty yesterday to harassment.
Hugh O'Donnell, a 30-year-old factory worker, hid the miniature cameras in the ceilings of his home to spy on his female lodgers.
The cameras were connected to recording equipment, which in turn was connected to O'Donnell's computer.
The bachelor, who rented out rooms at his Galway home, pleaded guilty yesterday to harassing one of his tenants between March 1 and March 9.
Galway District Court heard O'Donnell of Glendara, Rahoon, was arrested following a complaint from one of the lodgers.
When gardai searched his house they found hidden cameras in the corner of each room.
Many of the images he recorded had already been downloaded to is computer.
Officers seized the computer, which was found to contain 12 other files containing 100 images of child pornography.
O'Donnell was further charged with having computer images of male and female children engaging in explicit sexual activity in his possession, contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998.
He also pleaded guilty to this charge.
Inspector Tony O'Donnell told the court that the images O'Donnell recorded of his tenants caused them great embarrassment and was a gross invasion of their privacy.
He was charged with harassment under the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.
However, Insp O'Donnell did not specify how many tenants had been recorded but indicated that there were three complainants in court, including expert witnesses.
The accused's solicitor Olivia Traynor asked for the matter to be adjourned for two weeks so that her client's barrister could be present to address the court.
Judge Gerard Haughton accepted jurisdiction because O'Donnell had pleaded guilty and adjourned the matter for sentencing to April 7. Currently there is no law to protect the privacy of tenants, so gardai could only charge O'Donnell with harassment.
