PERSONAL STORIES GETTING ATTENTION.Byline: -Denisse Salazar Being the father of the bride isn't always the easiest job. Richard Colon of Burbank can attest to that. Over the last few months, Colon has been blogging on valleynews.com about his daughter Amanda's wedding planning. In his blog, he opens up about his feelings and gives valleynews.com users a glimpse of what it's like to have a daughter get married. In one of his entries, Colon talks about how the journey to his daughter's marriage started. It was with a phone call from Brian, the hopeful groom-to-be, who according to Colon ``wanted to follow the traditions of the past by calling his girlfriend's father to ask permission for her hand in marriage.'' Since then, Colon has been blogging about the process of selecting the wedding location, finding just the right band and about getting the Colon residence squeaky clean before out of town guests arrive and all the stress that comes with that. Colon could be described as a modern father of the bride since his blog has helped him relieve stress, while connecting people who might be in his same situation. His series of entries on being the father of the bride caught the attention of KCAL 9 producers who tracked down the Colons and asked if they could do a story on them. On Thursday, Nov. 16, reporter Carter Evans and cameraman Ron Price showed up to interview the father of the bride, the mother of the bride and the bride to be. The story aired during the midday newscast, showing interviews with the happy family. Colon said he has received comments from people reading his blog from the Valley to out-of-state. Read Colon's blog on page 10. Editor's note: Jason Kandel's column will resume Nov. 30. |
