PERSONAL DIGITAL DEVICES: A $500 MILLION MARKET OPPORTUNITY BY 1999
NORWELL, Mass., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- According to BIS Strategic Decisions, the market for personal digital devices (PDDs) will top $500 million for hardware and $150-200 million in software by 1999. Sales of organizers and personal productivity products grew by 10.5 percent over last year to $228 million in 1992, but growth will double through 1995 as product introductions by Apple, Sharp, and others drive retailer and consumer interest. Connectivity and communications are the key capabilities that will allow the PDD category to expand beyond its calculator and organizer heritage, says BIS.
