``A lot is going to be asked of this cast,'' Sorkin and Schlamme said. ``We still have a number of roles to fill to complete the ensemble, but you couldn't hope for a better start than these incredibly gifted actors.''

The project reunites Perry with Sorkin and Schlamme after the actor's guest stint on ``The West Wing'' earned him Emmy nominations in 2003 and 2004.

Perry was in high demand this pilot-casting season, with a number of projects at various networks courting him for the lead. He is the third ``Friends'' star to make a return to series television after Matt LeBlanc's turn in the ``Friends'' spinoff ``Joey'' and Lisa Kudrow's starring role on HBO's ``The Comeback.''

NEW ANGLE FOR BENNETT: Continuing to load up on conservative commentators, CNN CNN
 or Cable News Network

Subsidiary company of Turner Broadcasting Systems. It was created by Ted Turner in 1980 to present 24-hour live news broadcasts, using satellites to transmit reports from news bureaus around the world.
announced Wednesday that radio talk-show host and former U.S. education secretary William Bennett has joined the network as a contributor.

Bennett's hiring comes a week after CNN said former Republican congressman J.C. Watts was also joining to offer regular analysis on politics and government policy.

CNN's sister network, CNN Headline News, said last week that in April it will start a prime-time talk show starring conservative radio talk-show host Glenn Beck.

CNN says it isn't making a rush to the right. A spokeswoman said the network wanted to balance its commentator bench - liberals Paul Begala and James Carville have remained with the network while conservative foils Bob Novak and Tucker Carlson have left.

``Bill's experience as one of the nation's most influential and provocative conservative thinkers will provide our viewers with a unique perspective on many political issues,'' CNN president Jon Klein said of Bennett, a former Fox News Channel contributor.
