PERFORMING ARTS GRANT TO HELP TRAIN STUDENTS.

The grant will underwrite the Arts Council of Kern's ``Arts in Education'' program in elementary schools within the Mojave Unified, Southern Kern Unified and Tehachapi Unified School Districts.

The Arts Council's 12-week training program was created to instruct fourth- and fifth-graders in multicultural dance art forms.

Professional performers draw from their cultural heritage and training to provide students with a unique experience in the art of the dance, said Alis Clausen, a public affairs regional manager for Southern California Edison Southern California Edison (or SCE Corp), the largest subsidiary of Edison International (NYSE: EIX), is the primary electricity supply company for much of Southern California. With the grant from Edison, the council will bring an expanded Arts in Education Arts in Education is an expanding field of educational research and practice informed by investigations into learning through arts experiences. It is distinguished from art education by being not so much about teaching art, but focused on:
 program to the eastern Kern County communities of Tehachapi, Mojave, Rosamond and California City.

Edison International launched its Arts for the Community Program in January 1998. The goals are to provide increased accessibility and affordability of the arts for underserved communities, to improve appreciation of the arts, and to promote excellence and sustainability of local arts programs.
