Byline: The Register-Guard

Dance school's annual show is this weekend

The Musical Feet School of Dance will present its 29th annual dance concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Soreng Theatre at the Hult Center, Seventh Avenue and Willamette Street.

The show will feature all the students in the performing program at Musical Feet. They will perform pieces in tap, jazz, ballet and hip-hop. The dancers range in age from 3 to adult and in levels from beginning through advanced.

The concert also will include two guest artist tap dance groups: the Rhythm Section Noun 1. rhythm section - the section of a band or orchestra that plays percussion instruments

section - a division of an orchestra containing all instruments of the same class
 of DancEvolve from Portland and Pacific Tap Dance Company from Corvallis.

The show is directed by Jeanette Frame. The lighting designer and stage manager is Erin Riley. Choreographers include Honi Coles, Dianne Walker Dianne Walker is a world famous tap dancer known as "Lady Di." She began her dance training in Boston with Mildred Kennedy-Bradic and later studied with Leon Collins, Jimmy "Sir Slyde" Mitchell and Jimmy Slyde.  and Eleanor Borg and the faculty of Musical

Feet: Samantha Ketcherside, Erin Lee, Erin Riley, Rebecca Chelminiak, Sara Strite, Dawn Cypress, Keelie Allen, Erica Villanueva, Kate Cornwall, Kirsten Garrett and Jeanette Frame.

Events feature chanting, poetry, meditations

An evening of chanting, poetry, images and meditations on nature begins at 8 p.m. Friday at the Spirit Moves, 1840 Willamette St.

The event features Shantala (Benjy and Heather Wertheimer) and Eric Alan, author of `Wild Grace: Nature as a Spiritual Path.'

Additionally, two workshops will be offered Saturday at the Spirit Moves:

"Bringing Wild Grace to Life" will be presented by Alan from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"Nada Samudra: The Ocean of Devotional Sound" explores the ancient sacred arts of singing, devotional chant and rhythm with Shantala. It will be offered from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Cost is $45 for one workshop, $70 for both.

Night of improvisational theater set for Friday

The Emerald Valley Playback Theater will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Eugene Water & Electric Board, 500 E. Fourth Ave.

Playback theater is improvisational theater based on true-life stories told by the audience.

The theme for this performance is "Father and Sun - Exploring Fathers and the Longest Day of the Year."

Suggested donation is $5 to $10, but no one will be turned away. For information, call 343-1926.

New 22-member

choir to perform

A "Name That Choir!" event and concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mennonite Church Noun 1. Mennonite Church - formed from the Anabaptist movement in the 16th century; noted for its simplicity of life
Protestant denomination - group of Protestant congregations
, 3590 W. 18th Ave.

The concert will be an opportunity to hear the new 22-member secular choir, meet the membership, find out how to join and submit suggestions for a name for the choir.

If one of the names is chosen, the choir will perform a special concert at an event of the winner's choice.

Saturday's event also will include performances by two smaller ensembles as well as the popular Eugene folk duo Flying Crooked.

There is a suggested $5 donation, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Lane County Darfur Coalition. Refreshments will be available.

The group comprises amateur singers with a variety of musical experience and is seeking new members for next season. The choir is directed by Lisa Mischke.

The Eugene Symphony announced that three new orchestra musicians have been hired: Anne Ridlington was hired as section cello. Brad Kintscher was hired as second horn and Scott King Scott Glenndale Martin King (born June 25, 1967 in Thunder Bay, Ontario) was a professional ice hockey goaltender. He played in only two National Hockey League games for the Detroit Red Wings, but is known for his great play for the Toledo Storm.  was hired for the fourth horn position.

King played for the Eugene Symphony from 2003-2006 and is returning after a one-year departure.

He has also performed with the Oregon Mozart Players and the Oregon Symphony, as well as with artists such as Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Rich Little and Helen Reddy.

ACE youth program

stages `Macbeth'

A youth production of William Shakespeare's "Macbeth" opens Friday and runs for six performances at the Actors Cabaret Youth Academy Stage, 39 W. 10th Ave.

The cast includes Max Jeremiah (as Macbeth), Hillary Humphreys (Lady Macbeth), Kenny Jones (Duncan), Phoebe Gildea (Macduff), Walker Daniel (Lady Macduff) and Devon Daniel, Laura Elizabeth and Madison Jernberg (the Witches). Also in the cast are Tamara Benedict, Jimmy Christon, Cedar Drews, Megan Mackinnon and Braden Smith.

Performances begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and on June 22 and 23, and at 2 p.m. Sunday and on June 24. Tickets are $10, $8 for 12 and younger. Call 683-4368.
