Cooler concerts

ahead at the Shedd

The Shedd Institute for the Arts has installed a new air conditioning system in its two largest performance spaces, just in time for the August opening of the Oregon Festival of American Music's "Cole Porter: Night and Day."

The Concert Hall and the Great Hall at the former church building downtown were known to get hot and stuffy on summer days; the Shedd even provided patrons with fans. Air conditioning for the two halls cost about $500,000, which was paid for through private donations.

The Shedd installed air conditioning in its third performance venue, the Recital Hall, in 2003.
