Pianist to perform at teachers conference

Pianist Santiago Rodriguez will play a recital at 8 p.m. Saturday at Beall Concert Hall at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance, 961 E. 18th Ave.

Rodriguez performs internationally with leading orchestras such as the London Symphony and the Dresden Staatskapelle.

He is appearing here as part of the Oregon Music Teachers Association State Conference being held in Eugene.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $9 for students. On Friday afternoon members of the UO music faculty will play a free recital at 1:45 p.m. in Beall Hall.

Native flute teacher to give concert, talk

John Sarantos will give a free mini-concert/lecture on the native flute and world flutes at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Springfield Library Meeting Room, 875 Seventh St.

A Native American flute instructor, Sarantos has facilitated contemporary Native American flute workshops throughout the country for more than 15 years. He has written six songbooks for the native flute.

He will be the opening act for Gentle Thunder on Aug. 8, at Eugene's Freedom Yoga Studio, 1633 Willamette St. He'll also facilitate a series of flute workshops at Freedom Yoga.
