Concert opera schedules

production of `La Wally'

The Willamette Concert Opera continues its season Sept. 6 with a performance of "La Wally La Wally is a four-act opera by Alfredo Catalani, composed on a libretto by Luigi Illica, and first performed at La Scala, Milan on January 20, 1892.

The libretto is based on a hugely successful Heimatroman
" by Alfredo Catalani Alfredo Catalani (June 19, 1854 – August 7, 1893), was an Italian operatic composer, best known for the works La Wally (1892, to a libretto by Luigi Illica, containing Catalani's most famous aria, "Ebben? Ne andrĂ² lontana" from Act I) and Loreley (1890). .

The show, the fourth of five scheduled performances this season, begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Richard E. Wildish Community Theatre, 630 Main St., Springfield.

Singers for "La Wally" include Eleanor Stallcop-Horrox, Ralph Wells, Michael McCall and Carla Hilderbrand.

Soprano Stallcop-Horrox has been featured as a soloist with the Philadelphia Singers, Colorado Opera Festival, Colorado Springs Colorado Springs, city (1990 pop. 281,140), seat of El Paso co., central Colo., on Monument and Fountain creeks, at the foot of Pikes Peak; inc. 1886. It is a year-round resort and a booming military, technological, and commercial city.  Chorale chorale (kōrăl`, –räl`), any of the traditional hymns of the German Protestant Church. The form was developed after the Reformation to replace the plainsong of the earlier service and as a means of congregational participation in , Seattle Opera, Orchestra Seattle and with Bel Canto Northwest in Portland.

Wells, a baritone, has performed dozens of opera and oratorio oratorio (ôrətôr`ēō), musical composition employing chorus, orchestra, and soloists and usually, but not necessarily, a setting of a sacred libretto without stage action or scenery.  roles ranging from Figaro to Escamillo. He has worked with companies from Los Angeles Opera The Los Angeles Opera is an opera company in Los Angeles, California, United States. The company's home base is the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, part of the Los Angeles Music Center.  to the Seattle Symphony pops.

McCall, a tenor, has appeared with opera companies and symphonies throughout the West and in Germany.

Hilderbrand is making her debut with Willamette Concert Opera after performing with companies throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The final program planned for Eugene-Springfield this year also includes two shorter operas: Franco Leoni's "L'oracolo" and Gian Carlo Menotti's "The Medium" on Oct. 18.

Now in its third season, the group also performs in Portland and Corvallis.
