Byline: The Register-Guard

Lord Leebrick offers

experimental drama

"Ruby by the River," an experimental drama by Richard Leebrick, opens tonight and runs through July 28 at Lord Leebrick Theatre, 540 Charnelton St.

The play, which grew out of a writing class Leebrick took in the 1990s, had its first full production in November at Lane Community College under the direction of Benjamin Newman.

Lord Leebrick is mounting this new production, also directed by Newman, in collaboration with the LCC (Leadless Chip Carrier, Leaded Chip Carrier) See leadless chip carrier, CLCC and PLCC.

The cast has Cate Wolfenbarger, Dylan Skye Kennedy, Johnny Ormsbee, Caitlin Jean Tischer, Elizabeth Perkins, Maranda Burrell, Chip Sherman, Mindy Linder, Scott Shirk shirk

In Islam, idolatry and polytheism, both of which are regarded as heretical. The Qu'ran stresses that God does not share his powers with any partner (sharik) and warns that those who believe in idols will be harshly dealt with on the Day of Judgment.

Showtime is 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through July 28. It is intended for mature audiences.

Board members honored

by the Eugene Symphony The Eugene Symphony is an American orchestra based in Eugene, Oregon. Its home venue is the Silva Concert Hall at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts.

Approximately 22,000 people attend Eugene Symphony's classical and pops concert performances each year.
 

The Eugene Symphony Association honored two recipients - Debbie Mee and Laura Avery - with the Eugene Symphony Advancement Award.

The award was developed to acknowledge and thank board members who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the symphony's operational and artistic goals.

Nominees may have led efforts to increase the association's annual fund, worked to strengthen educational or artistic programs or enhanced the symphony's viability and stability.

Mee, Eugene Symphony Guild president during the 2006-07 season, led a group of more than 150 volunteers through a series of fundraising events. The events generated one of the largest Guild contributions ever to support the Symphony's annual operating and endowment funds Endowment funds

Investment funds established for the support of institutions such as colleges, private schools, museums, hospitals, and foundations. The investment income may be used for the operation of the institution and for capital expenditures.

Avery played a leadership role through her work on the artistic planning committee planning committee n (in local government) → comité m de planificación  and a number of education programs. Most notably, she provided generous resources to support one of the symphony's prominent initiatives: the Laura Avery Visiting Masters Program.

hires two staff members

The Eugene Symphony Association has announced two new staff appointments.

Jen Voth is the new donor relations manager. She recently completed her master's in arts management at the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities. .

While in graduate school, Voth worked with the UO's Center for Community Arts and Cultural Policy, the Oregon Bach Festival The Oregon Bach Festival is an annual celebration of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, held in Eugene, Oregon in late June and early July. It was co-founded by German conductor Helmuth Rilling and the former president of the American Choral Directors Association, Royce Saltzman,  and the UO's Chamber Music Series.

Two directors added

to board for orchestra

Two new directors were elected recently to the Eugene Symphony Association's board of directors: George Hanson and George Burnette Dillon.

Hanson was a Eugene physician before retiring in 1988. He has served on the board of the Oregon Bach Festival.

Dillon is a professional free-lance trumpet player and teacher. He is a former member of the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Brass and the Fine Arts Brass Quintet.

Dillon has appeared as a featured soloist with the Pacific Symphony and Pasadena Symphony and has been a member of both orchestras. He has performed with the orchestra of the American Ballet Theatre American Ballet Theatre, one of the foremost international dance companies of the 20th cent. It was founded in 1937 as the Mordkin Ballet and reorganized as the Ballet Theatre in 1940 under the direction of Lucia Chase and Rich Pleasant. .

Symphony officers for the 2007-08 season are Mary Ann Hanson, president; Kazem Oveissi, vice president; Hank Storr, treasurer; and Carolyn Chambers, secretary.
