Byline: The Register-Guard

`Celtic Christmas' show will mark its 20th year

Storyteller David Stuart Bull, fiddler Linda Danielson and guitarist Chico Schwall will present "A Celtic Christmas" at 7 p.m. next Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Lord Leebrick Theatre, 540 Charnelton St.

Bull will read "A Child's Christmas in Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff. " by Dylan Thomas. Danielson and Schwall will play and sing Celtic music. This is the threesome's 20th anniversary performance, and they have released a CD titled "A Celtic Holiday."

Admission is $10. Tickets are available at the Lord Leebrick box office, 465-1506.

Flutist and guitarist plan concert for CD release

Flutist Alan McCullough and classical guitarist Peter Thomas will celebrate the release of their CD "Discovery" with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Newman Center, 1850 Emerald St.

The album consists of 16 compositions that the two musicians wrote collaboratively. Stylistic influences include Baroque, Spanish and Celtic.

Admission will be $7 at the door. The CDs are $12, payable in cash or by check.

Russian pianist to perform Schubert, others at PSU PSU - power supply unit  

Russian pianist Vassily Primakov will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, in Lincoln Performance Hall at Portland State University, 1620 S.W. Park Ave.

His Saturday evening program includes Franz Schubert's Impromptu No. 1 in C Minor (D.899), Johannes Brahms' Variations and Fugue on a theme by Handel The Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel, Op. 24, is a highly imaginative, classically polished composition for solo piano penned by Johannes Brahms. It was composed in September 1861 as a birthday present for Clara Schumann, who was the widow of Brahms' musical and personal , Philip Glass's music from the motion picture "The Hours" and Alexander Glazunov's Sonata No. 1 in B-flat Minor (Op. 74). His Sunday afternoon program will be devoted entirely to the music of Frederic Chopin.

Canadian boys choir

to sing in Newport

The British Columbia Boys Choir will perform at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 on the Alice Silverman Stage at the Newport Performing Arts Center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre. , 777 W. Olive St., Newport.

Founded by in 1968 and now directed by Tony Araujo, the choir has performed in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. . Its touring ensemble is a four-part, non-liturgical boys choir, one of the few in North America.

Tickets are $20 at the Newport PAC box office (541-265-2787). The Canadian choir's performance is part of a series presented by the Community Concert Association. The season also will include the Vela Luka Croatian Dance Ensemble and Ruze Dalmatinke Orchestra on Feb. 18 and the American Chamber Players on April 2.
