Organist to perform

at Lutheran church

Organist ElRay Stewart-Cook will play music by J.S. Bach, Maurice Durufle and others at 4 p.m. today on the Brombaugh organ at Central Lutheran Church, 1857 Potter St.

Educated at the University of London's Guildhall School of Music and at the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  School of Music, Stewart-Cook has been organist and choirmaster at Central Lutheran for 20 years. An offering will be taken.

Theater company wins grant to hire marketer

Willamette Repertory Theatre has received a $20,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation's Robert M. Stafrin Fund to hire a development and marketing staff member.

`Humble Boy' opens

at Ashland festival

``Humble Boy,'' an award-winning dramatic comedy by British playwright Charlotte Jones, has opened at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is a regional repertory theatre in Ashland, Oregon, United States. The festival annually produces eleven plays on three stages during a season that lasts from February to October.  in Ashland. The protagonist is Felix Humble, a Cambridge University research fellow and astrophysicist who returns home for the funeral of his father, an entomologist and beekeeper, only to find that his mother already has her eye on the next-door neighbor.

Directed by Penny Metropulos, "Humble Boy" will run through Oct. 31 in the festival's New Theatre.

Written in 2001, the play won several honors including the Critics Circle Award for best new play.

Free outdoor staging of `Winter's Tale' to open

Free Shakespeare in the Park Shakespeare in the Park is a concept used across the world, as a form of free public presentation of William Shakespeare's works. Such performances exist in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.  will present "The Winter's Tale" Aug. 1-29 outdoors at Amazon Community Park and Center, 2700 Hilyard St.

Directed by Sharon Mann, the cast features Alexander Pawlowski as Leontes, Leticia Maskell as Hermione, Jon Younkin as Polixenes, Dannette Lamson-Hall as Camillo, Bob Glasser as Antigonus and AnnMarie Maurer as Paulina.

Ranging in age from 10 to 62, the cast also includes Paige Kouba, Sarah Turnquist, Kevin Kelley, Marianna Weiss, Kellen Terrett, Sharon Dursi, Grace Kouba, Claire Kouba, Patrick Kouba, Emily Peterson, Lilith Lincoln-Dinan, Mishelle Prior, Jenny Oberst, James Lamson-Hall and Guruman Kavr Atwal.

The Story Lady gives a preshow synopsis for children at 5 p.m., and the play begins at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Playwright comes home to Eugene to stage play

"A Light in the Dark," a six-part play written and directed by former Eugene resident Ezra LeBank, will be presented Thursday through Saturday at the Lord Leebrick Theatre, 540 Charnelton St.

Staged by LeBank's Lynx Company, the 95-minute production explores the moment after death when one needs to find some clue to life's purpose before letting go entirely, a moment when one grapples with "the complexities of life, love, liberty and language itself," LeBank writes.
