PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE OFFERED BY XEROX BUSINESS SERVICES; NEW PROMISE COMPLEMENTS THE XEROX TOTAL SATISFACTION GUARANTEE

 ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- A performance guarantee that assures customers they will be fully satisfied with all services, materials, procedures and personnel offered by Xerox Business Services (XBS) was announced today.
 The guarantee extends the scope of Xerox Corporation's (NYSE: XRX) Total Satisfaction Guarantee, which is centered on equipment performance and support, to include contracted services offered by Xerox Business Services, one of nine divisions of Xerox Corporation. It provides for penalty-free cancellation of a XBS service contract if agreed-upon performance standards are not achieved and maintained.
 "This guarantee empowers our customers to make the critical decision of whether or not we are meeting their requirements," said Norman F. Rickard, president, Xerox Business Services. "It is the strongest guarantee we can offer."
 The guarantee, known as the XBS Total Satisfaction Guarantee, covers all aspects of XBS operations. For facilities management contracts, where Xerox personnel reside at a customer site and operate all document- production equipment, XBS will:
 -- Set performance standards based on specific customer requirements;
 -- Promptly correct, at no cost to the customer, all work that does not meet requirements;
 -- Provide qualified, trained personnel, with a specific clause in the agreement to promptly correct performance standards if they fall below the agreed-upon performance expectations;
 -- Provide Xerox equipment that is covered by the Xerox Total Satisfaction Guarantee for equipment; and
 -- Provide timely management reports with specific recommendations to improve a customer's on-site operation.
 The guarantee also applies to services offered by XBS document- production centers, located in major cities across the U.S. The centers are equipped and staffed to provide the same level of document- production support to customers whose requirements do not call for on- site management.
 For work performed at XBS document-production centers, the guarantee assures that:
 -- All work will meet the quality and turnaround requirements of the customer, based on the agreed-upon requirements for each job.
 The XBS Total Satisfaction Guarantee formalizes long-standing XBS business principles, Rickard said. It is effective immediately for new or existing customers, and remains in effect for the life of the service contract, or for the scope of the job, as in the case of work performed at document-production centers.
