 PEPSI-COLA SAYS "UH-HUH!" TO NUTRASWEET
 SOMERS, N.Y., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Pepsi-Cola Company and The

NutraSweet Company today announced that they have signed a long-term agreement that makes NutraSweet the preferred supplier of the sweetener, aspartame, to Pepsi-Cola Company.
The agreement extends to the U.S. and other key diet soft drink markets around the world.
"The enormous popularity and success of the NutraSweet trademark and the track record of aspartame have been important factors in the growth of our diet products," said Craig E. Weatherup, president and chief executive officer of Pepsi-Cola North America. "Because of this new agreement, we will continue to benefit from a proven sweetener and also benefit from The NutraSweet Company's commitment to customer service, production capacity, R&D and technological innovation."
"This is a mutually beneficial agreement for Pepsi-Cola Company and our parent company, Monsanto," said Robert E. Flynn, chairman and CEO of the NutraSweet Company. "This strategic partnership will bring new business-building opportunities to both parties, focusing our resources toward the growth of Pepsi-Cola's diet brands and the development of new products."
The Pepsi-NutraSweet relationship began in 1983 when NutraSweet brand sweetener was first approved by the FDA for use in soft drinks. In 1984, Diet Pepsi was the first national diet cola to be sweetened with 100 percent NutraSweet. Since then, Diet Pepsi with NutraSweet has expanded to almost 70 countries around the world.
