PEPSI-COLA AND TACO BELL LEND MARKETING MUSCLE TO 'ROCK THE VOTE'
PEPSI-COLA AND TACO BELL LEND MARKETING MUSCLE TO 'ROCK THE VOTE' New Pepsi Spokescreature Makes Rare U.S. Appearance During Sept. 23 Star-Studded Television Special SOMERS, N.Y., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- "This is a show about making up your mind. We're not going to tell you who to vote for...but we'll do our best to convince you to register...and vote." These opening words, delivered by Academy-Award-winning actor Michael Douglas, set the stage for a unique and compelling television special, aimed at inspiring young Americans to cast their ballots this November. "Rock the Vote" -- made possible through the sponsorship support of mega marketers Pepsi-Cola Company and Taco Bell -- is the first program of its kind, and weaves its powerful message through a blend of comedy, satire, music, impactful vignettes and creative storytelling. The hour-long special airs Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 9 - 10 p.m. on the Fox Network, and features an all-star line-up of performers including: Tom Cruise, Ted Danson, Rebecca DeMornay, Laura Dern, Whoopi Goldberg, Denis Leary, Spike Lee, Madonna, Marlee Matlin, Michael Moore, Priscilla Presley, Jason Priestley, Christian Slater, Ben Stiller, Danny DeVito and Robin Williams. Also featured are musical performances by (in order of appearance): Queen Latifah, Red Hot Chili Peppers, R.E.M., Deee-Lite, and U2. "As a major marketer whose legacy lies in the youth of America, we feel it's important that today's generation let its voice be heard," said David Novak, senior vice president national sales and marketing for Pepsi-Cola Company. "'Rock the Vote' is a powerful and entertaining vehicle that we hope will inspire its young audience to become involved in the political process of our nation." During the last presidential election, only 36 percent of America's 25 million eligible young voters (18-24) turned out at the polls. Less than half of our nation's eligible youth are even registered to vote. Acclaimed writers/producers Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick ("thirtysomething") are executive producers of "Rock the Vote." The program is produced under the supervision of BBDO Worldwide, LA. Pepsi "Alien" Makes Rare Broadcast Appearance A new 60 seconds Pepsi commercial featuring the creature from the theatrical motion picture "Alien 3," will make a rare U.S. television appearance during the Sept. 23 "Rock the Vote" broadcast. The ad was created for exclusive use by Pepsi-Cola International, but, after receiving an overwhelming response from teen audiences abroad, was adapted for use in the U.S. The commercial, entitled "Alien," made its domestic debut during the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month. The ad's Sept. 23 airing on Fox marks the broadcast television premiere for the 60 seconds spot. "Alien" will also be seen through Whittle Communications' Channel One network, and on the MTV network, through the remainder of the year. "Alien" was produced by BBDO Worldwide, New York.
