PEP BOYS OPENS FIRST UNIT IN KANSAS

 PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Pep Boys -- Manny, Moe & Jack (NYSE: PBY), the nation's leading automotive aftermarket retail and service chain, today announced the opening of its first unit in the state of Kansas. The 23,000-square-foot warehouse-format, automotive supercenter is located in Wichita and features 11 service bays and more than 24,000 SKUs.
 Pep Boys, which currently operates 378 stores in 27 states, said it anticipates opening as many as 10 additional automotive supercenters and closing two outmoded units by Jan. 29, 1994, the end of the current fiscal year.
