Petrocelili Takes Growing Client List to Bigger Law Firm

WITH his nationwide client roster growing, high-profile L.A. attorney Daniel Petrocelli has joined the downtown law firm of O'Melveny & Myers as a partner.

Petrocelli made the move after deciding that he could better serve his clients through a bigger firm.

"My practice started expanding across the country and I thought I'd be better positioned to represent my clients and potential clients who might call if I worked at a national firm," said the 47-year-old Petrocelli. "As my clients grow and have greater needs, I'd like to provide a deeper level of work."

In 20 years with Los Angeles law firm Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp, Petrocelli worked in the areas of entertainment, intellectual property, securities and general business.

In one of his highest-profile cases, Petrocelli successfully represented the Goldman family in their civil suit against O.J. Simpson. A jury found Simpson liable for the deaths of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson Nicole Brown Simpson (May 19, 1959 – June 12, 1994) was the wife of American football player O.J. Simpson. Found murdered at her home in Los Angeles, California, along with her friend Ronald Goldman, her death led to one of the most controversial and widely-discussed criminal  and Ronald Goldman, then ordered Simpson to pay $33.5 million in compensatory and punitive damages Monetary compensation awarded to an injured party that goes beyond that which is necessary to compensate the individual for losses and that is intended to punish the wrongdoer. .

As his reputation grows, Petrocelli said, more clients are calling for counseling on topics outside his litigation skills -- such as corporate transactions and strategic planning. He expects to have more resources to call on at O'Melveny & Myers, where there are 750 attorneys on staff, compared with 130 at Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp, Petrocelli said he was enticed particularly by O'Melveny's strength in the fields of entertainment and technology.

Mark Steinberg, litigation partner at O'Melveny & Myers, said bringing Petrocelli into the firm made sense.

"Anyone who litigates major cases in Los Angeles knows and respects Dan," Steinberg said. "He's one of the go-to litigators in Los Angeles."

Petrocelli earned his law degree at Southwestern University. He is the author of "Triumph of Justice: The Final Judgment on the Simpson Saga."
