RETIREMENTS Dr. Roger Warren Roger Warren (b. December 17, 1943) is a former miner who was convicted of nine counts of second-degree murder in connection to the September 18, 1992 Giant Mine bombings at Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. has announced his retirement from the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at North Carolina State University after 32 years of service as a professor and administrator. Warren, the coauthor of four books including Parks and Recreation Maintenance Management, now in its third edition, joined the faculty as an instructor in 1966. He served as department head from 1978 to '87. AWARDS Fran R Mainella, CLP, director of the Division of Recreation and Parks in Florida's Department of Environmental Protection, has received the 1998 Pugsley Medal, the highest professional honor given by the American Academy of Park and Recreation Administration. The award recognizes outstanding performance and accomplishments by park professionals at the local, state, and national levels. The director of Florida's 151-unit state park system since 1989, Mainella is the first woman to receive the award since its inception in 1961.
