Emmett Barker Named Agribusiness Leader

The president and chief staff executive of the Equipment Manufacturers Institute (EMI), Emmett Barker, has been named Agribusiness Leader of the Year by the National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA Na·ma

). The award honors an outstanding leader in agribusiness, education, government service or other agribusiness-related areas. He is shown here with the award and Mrs. Barker.

Barker became chief staff executive of the Farm and Industrial Equipment Institute in 1973. Under his leadership, the organization was reorganized to reflect changes in the equipment industries and provide more services to a shrinking base of equipment manufacturers. In 1990, the major construction equipment manufacturers affiliated with the Institute and the name of the organization was changed to Equipment Manufacturers Institute.

In 1973, he was appointed by Secretary of Agriculture Earl Butz to be in the delegation to the Soviet Union for the purpose of creating more exchanges of agricultural information and technology.
