Kahan Will Oversee Real Estate Division for Davis Cos.

TED Kahan hopes to learn a thing or two from Marvin Davis.

Kahan has been hired by the L.A. billionaire to head the real estate division of the Davis Cos.

Although Kahan will oversee the division, Davis, who is well known in the real estate world for his excellent market timing, will continue to play an important role in the company's acquisition of commercial real estate.

"It will be a collaborative effort," Kahan said. "Marvin has a proven track record and he will be heavily involved in what we are doing. He has proven time and time again that he knows how to find opportunities and seize them. I'm just hoping that a little bit or a lot of that rubs off on me."

In his former role as general counsel of American Golf, Kahan oversaw the construction unit of American Golf, based in Santa Monica. There, he was instrumental in the acquisition of several golf courses and related companies.

At the Davis Cos., Kahan intends to implement a growth strategy similar to the one he followed at American Golf.

"The transition has been pretty easy so far," said Kahan. "I came from a very growth-oriented environment where there was a premium on looking for Looking for

opportunities and executing when you find them. That appears to be the motive and operation of the Davis Cos. As far as putting energy into projects and getting them done, it is really quite similar."

In other ways, Kahan says, there is no correlation between his employment at American Golf and future acquisitions for his new employer.

"It is not a signal of the types of real estate we are looking at," Kahan noted. "Certainly, if there are promising resort opportunities, we will look at them."

As for Kahan's vision for the future of the Davis Cos., he says he wants to continue on the path of success that Davis has set.

"My view is that I want to be involved in an organization that is aggressive and energetic and looking to make things happen," Kahan said.
