PEOPLE.The Ohio Parks and Recreation Association presented the Hamilton County Park District with an award of excellence for its efforts in renovating and expanding Winton Woods Harbor. The renovation initiative included preservation of the local environment through the dredging and restoration of the lake, construction of a 1.7-mile hiking/biking trail, six new picnic shelters, and other recreational improvements. Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, has accepted an appointment to the Governor's Child Daycare Council. Her tenure will continue until June 30, 2000. Wiersberg has worked for the county for 19 years and has served as the division manager since 1993. The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) is the international governing body for the sport of wheelchair basketball. IWBF is recognized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as the sole competent authority in wheelchair basketball world wide. Executive Council has named Dr. Bob Szyman of Hazelwood, Mich., its new secretary general. Szyman has coached and administered wheelchair basketball on the local, collegiate, national, and international levels since 1971. The Fairfax County (Va.) Park Authority has appointed Cindy Messinger director of its Park Services division. Messinger has been with the park authority since 1979. Her new duties will include supervision of recreation and production services, golf enterprises, and the business office. Steve Yolitz, vice president of marketing for Textron Turf Care and Specialty Products, recently accepted additional business development responsibilities. Textron also promoted Yolitz's colleague, Peter Whurr, from director of product management to vice president of product management. The Franklin County (N.C.) Parks and Recreation Department has named Mike Loyd to its advisory board. The Hamilton County (Ohio) Park District welcomed Jackie Hibberd to its staff as the new volunteer coordinator. Hibberd will oversee the efforts of the park district's 508 Volunteers-In-Parks (VIPs) and recruit new volunteers to the program.
