CURRAN NAMED AIRTOUCH VP: Robert M. Curran, a 17-year telecommunications veteran, has been named vice president of marketing and sales for AirTouch Cellular's Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. KARDELL APPOINTED VP: Maxine G. Kardell has been appointed vice president of Digital Image Lab in Encino, a service bureau for advertising agencies, entertainment companies, photographers and photo shops.

FOX ANNOUNCES PROMOTIONS: Peter Levinsohn has been promoted to the newly created position of senior vice president, international pay television and pay-per-view for Twentieth Century Fox.

Jamie McCabe has been promoted to vice president, worldwide pay-per-view, and Christine Dowson has been promoted to vice president, worldwide pay television for Twentieth Century Fox's Pay Television Division.

Levinsohn will be responsible for the distribution of Twentieth Century Fox's feature film television programming and will play a greater role in developing channels outside the United States.

McCabe, who most recently served as director of worldwide pay-per-view, will continue to be responsible for managing the marketing and distribution of Fox's feature film and television product in all markets.

Dowson, previously a director of worldwide pay television, will be responsible for distribution of Fox's feature film and television product to domestic and international markets.

EFROS NAMED SENIOR VP: Mel Efros was recently named to the newly created position of senior vice president of production for Rysher Entertainment.

Efros will be based at Rysher headquarters in Santa Monica, overseeing all production-related operations for the company.

He currently has nine programs in production or on the air for Rysher, a production and distribution company.

McGOVERN PROMOTED TO SENIOR VP: Tom McGovern has been promoted to senior vice president for Warner Bros BROS Brothers
BROS Benefits and Retirement Operations Section (King County, Washington)
BROS Barnes and Richmond Operatic Society (London, UK) 
. Studio Stores International, the retail division of Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

McGovern will be responsible for business development, store operations, real estate and marketing.

KRASK PROMOTED TO VP: Sylvia Krask has been promoted to the position of vice president of music business and legal affairs for Walt Disney Pictures and Television.

Krask will be responsible for negotiating soundtrack-album agreements and talent contracts for recording artists, songwriters, record producers and composers for all motion pictures produced for Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures and Hollywood Pictures banners.

She recently served as dirctor, music business and legal affairs.

 CHAIRMAN: William A. Shields, president of the American Film Marketing Association, was recently elected its chairman for a two-year term after defeating incumbant Fredrick Schneier.

The trade group represents 130 independent film and television companies that finance, produce and distribute English language films for the international market.

New AFMA President Allen R. Frischkorn was introduced to the member companies at AFMA's annual meeting earlier this fall.

Frischkorn's selection took place after a one-year, nationwide search. He will succeed Jonas Rosenfeld, AFMA's first paid president, who is retiring April 1.
