 (D) has signed legislation lowering the legal blood-alcohol limit for driving from 0.10 percent to 0.08 percent.

The measure, SB 8, also imposes penalties on drunk drivers based on their blood-alcohol levels, establishing three tiers with increasing civil and criminal penalties: .0.08 to less than 0.10; 0.10 to less than 0.16; and 0.16 and above.

Motorists with a third offense would receive 90-day sentences, except those with blood-alcohol levels of 0.16 or higher would receive a mandatory one-year adj. 1. completing its life cycle within a year.
