Bank for International Settlements (BIS)
An international bank headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, which serves as a forum for monetary cooperation among several European central banks, the Bank of Japan, and the US Federal Reserve System. Founded in 1930 to handle the German payment of World War I reparations, it now monitors and collects data on international banking activity and promulgates rules concerning international bank regulation.

El Bey v. United States, No. 00-5293 (D.C. Cir., filed August 31, 2000). Appeal from district court order dismissing pro se action as lacking arguable basis in law. The government filed a motion for summary affirmance on October 26, 2000.

Trans Union LLC v. Board of Governors, et al., No. 00-CV-2087(ESH) (D.D.C., filed August 30, 2000). Action under Administrative Procedure Act challenging a portion of interagency rule regarding Privacy of Consumer Financial Information.

Sedgwick v. Board of Governors, No. 00-16525 (9th Cir., filed August 7, 2000). Appeal of district court dismissal of action under Federal Tort Claims Act Federal Tort Claims Act n. a statute (1948) which removed the power of the Federal government to claim immunity from a lawsuit for damages due to negligent or intentional injury by a federal employee in the scope of his work for the government. It also established a set of regulations and format for making claims, giving jurisdiction to federal district courts. alleging violation of bank supervision requirements.

Action under Administrative Procedure Act Administrative Procedure Act n. the Federal Act which established the rules and regulations for applications, claims, hearings and appeals involving governmental agencies. )(D.D.C., filed December 22, 1998). Declaratory judgment action challenging Board labor practices. On February 26, 1999, the Board filed a motion to dismiss the action.

Board of Governors v. Pharaon, No. 98-6101 (2d Cir., filed May 4, 1998). Appeal and cross-appeal of district court order granting in part and denying in part the Board's motion for summary judgment seeking prejudgment interest and a statutory surcharge in connection with a civil money penalty assessed by the Board. On February 24, 1999, the court granted the Board's appeal and denied the cross-appeal, and remanded the matter to the district court for determination of prejudgment interest due to the Board. On January 29, 2001, the District Court approved a settlement and terminated the action.
