Issues by the US government to the public through the Federal Reserve Banks and their member banks. They represent money owed by the government to the public. Currently, the item "Federal Reserve notes amounts outstanding" consists of new series issues. The Federal Reserve note is the only class of currency currently issued.

Sedgwick v. Board of Governors, No. Civ 99 0702 (D. Arizona, filed April 14, 1999). Action under Federal Tort Claims Act Federal Tort Claims Act n. a statute (1948) which removed the power of the Federal government to claim immunity from a lawsuit for damages due to negligent or intentional injury by a federal employee in the scope of his work for the government. Hunter v. Board of Governors, No. 1:98CV02994 (ESH) (D.D.C., filed December 9, 1998). Action under the Freedom of Information Act Presidential Records Act—enacted by Congress in 1978—took effect. Under it, presidential papers were to be released to the public 12 years after an administration ended. In 2001, however, President George W. Bush signed an executive order that gave a former president or a sitting president the right to prevent the release of a former president's papers to the public. The G. W., the Privacy Act, and the first amendment. On April 26, 2000, the court granted the Board's motion to dismiss or for summary judgment.

Folstad v. Board of Governors, No. 00-1056 (6th Cir., filed January 14, 2000). Appeal of district court order granting summary judgment to the Board in a Freedom of Information Act case.

Nelson v. Greenspan, No. 1:99CV00215 (EGS) (D.D.C., filed January 28, 1999). Employment discrimination complaint. On February 25, 2000, the court granted the Board's motion to dismiss the complaint.

)(D.D.C., filed December 22, 1998). Declaratory judgment action challenging Board labor practices. On February 26, 1999, the Board filed a motion to dismiss the action.

Board of Governors v. Carrasco, No. 98 Civ. 3474 (LAK) (S.D.N.Y., filed May 15, 1998). Action to freeze assets of individual pending administrative adjudication of civil money penalty assessment by the Board. On May 26, 1998, the court issued a preliminary injunction restraining the transfer or disposition of the individual's assets and appointing the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as receiver for those assets. Following entry of the Board's order requiring restitution, 85 Federal Reserve Bulletin 142 (1998), the court granted the Board's motion for judgment in the asset freeze action and authorized a judicial sale judicial sale n. a sale of goods by an official (keeper, trustee or sheriff) appointed by the court and ordered by a court, usually to satisfy a judgment or implement another order of the court. Such sales require public notice of time, place and a description of the goods to be sold. (See: sheriff's sale) of the seized property.

Board of Governors v. Pharaon, No. 98-6101 (2d Cir., filed May 4, 1998). Appeal and cross-appeal of district court order granting in part and denying in part the Board's motion for summary judgment seeking prejudgment interest and a statutory surcharge in connection with a civil money penalty assessed by the Board. On February 24, 1999, the court granted the Board's appeal and denied the cross-appeal, and remanded the matter to the district court for determination of prejudgment interest due to the Board.
