PECO TO RESTRUCTURE MONTGOMERY COUNTY CUSTOMER SERVICE OPERATIONS TO PROVIDE WIDER, MORE EFFICIENT SERVICE

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Philadelphia Electric Company (NYSE: PE) (PECO) said today it is restructuring its customer service operations in Montgomery County to provide wider, more efficient service.
The restructuring will expand customer service telephone operations and consolidate them in PECO's Montgomery County Division headquarters in Plymouth Township, and the Company will expand bill paying locations throughout the county from 38 to 66.
Tom Stapleford, PECO general manager for Montgomery County, said the restructuring represented another step in PECO's ongoing reorganization efforts designed both to contain costs and to improve customer service.
The moves were made possible he said, since PECO's expanded telephone service operations now afford customers, for the first time in several years, the convenience of applying for service over the telephone.
As a result, PECO will close its walk-in offices in Potttown, on Feb. 19, and at the Plymouth Meeting Mall, on March 19, and it will expand its automated bill paying locations to commercial establishments, like banks, grocery and convenience stores, throughout the County.
Stapleford said the commercial establishments will offer a wider variety of operating hours and more convenient travel for customers who prefer to pay bills in person rather than by mail.
Workers from PECO's Pottstown and Plymouth Meeting Mall customer service offices will be transferred to its Montgomery County Division headquarters at Ridge Pike and Chemical Road, Plymouth Meeting, where walk-in services will be available.
Construction of a 12,000-square foot addition to the existing headquarters building, to house customer service operations, will be completed April 1. The new offices will handle bill payment and general service needs for both residential and commercial customers.
Stapleford said, "With these changes, we believe we can better coordinate our employees, ensure response to customer needs in the most timely, efficient, and professional manner, and realize cost savings for the company as well."
All Montgomery County customer needs can be served by telephone by calling PECO representatives at 941-1400 to open or close an electric or gas account, to inquire about a bill, to arrange budget billing or payment terms, to request a usage analysis, or to ask for general information.
