PECO NAMES JUNE DOUGLAS FIRST WOMAN MANAGER OF PECO GENERATING STATION

PHILADELPHIA, June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- This July, June C. Douglas, a resident of Northeast Philadelphia, will mark 30 years at Philadelphia Electric Company (NYSE: PE) (PECO) in a brand new job.
Three decades after starting as a typist with the company at its Center City headquarters, Douglas, 47, assumed a new position this month as manager of PECO's Cromby Generating Station, the first woman to direct the operations of a power plant in PECO history.
Douglas is responsible for 150 employees and the operation and maintenance of the two-unit, 374-megawatt (mw) electric generating station, located along the Schuylkill River in Phoenixville, Chester County. Cromby represents an investment of $179 million and has an annual operating budget of more than $40 million.
Cromby, built during the mid-1950s, has two generating units using coal and natural gas with oil backup. The station produced nearly 780 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in 1992, its highest output in five years, even though Unit 2 was out of service for four months.
PECO invested $14 million to convert Unit 2 last year to operate more flexibly on either natural gas and oil. Cromby's 160-mw Unit 1 utilizes coal with sulfur dioxide scrubbers.
John Madara, PECO vice president, Electric Production, said, "Mrs. Douglas possesses strong leadership and managerial skills, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of power plant operations. Her selection is in keeping with our vision of being a professional, diverse, quality- focused team."
Douglas held clerical positions with PECO from 1963 until 1985, working in the company's Method's and Training group, at Delaware Station, a now largely-retired power plant in the city, and as administrative assistant to the vice president of PECO's Engineering and Production Department.
In 1985, Douglas earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting at Holy Family College and received her MBA degree in Finance at LaSalle University in 1990.
In 1985, she became a cost analyst in the financial branch of the Production department and was named a supervisor three years later. In 1990, Douglas moved to General Accounting under PECO's Controller.
She was named a manager for the company in April 1991, overseeing the Business Unit of the Production Department, responsible for strategic and financial plans, fuel procurement, contract management, and support services to the company's fossil and hydro generating plants.
Douglas is active in a number of industry related organizations, as a board member of the American Coal Ash Association (ACAA), and with the National Association of Female Executives (NAFE) and the Electric Utility Cost Group.
She also is a member of the East Torresdale Civic Association.
She and her husband, Dennis, reside on Wissinoming Street, Philadelphia. They have two children.
